Greenbriar Reconstruction Meeting – January 20, 2015
Greenbriar from Rice Boulevard to Holcombe is on the City’s Capital Improvement Project (CIP) list for full reconstruction in the City’s FY2017. A meeting was held at Roberts Elementary on January 20, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. by residents of Morningside Place to hear about the project from the City’s Public Works team. There is no proposal to add additional lanes on Greenbriar, however, some other aspects of the design were not favorable to residents, such as the proposed widening of lanes and the street, which could facilitate higher speeds and increase danger for children who must cross Greenbriar to get to Roberts Elementary. It would also destroy the oak trees planted along Greenbriar. The City received much community input at the meeting and left a copy of the plans at Roberts Elementary (and later at Christ the King Church) for others in the community to write their comments/feedback on. The plans were collected three weeks later and the City has been studying all of the input and weighing the options.
Working with the community before finalizing CIP street projects is a new Public Works policy, and the Greenbriar meeting was the first of its kind. The City will be holding a Greenbriar Reconstruction meeting sometime in April at which they will present their revised plans. We will let you know when and where that meeting is scheduled.Posted on: January 31, 2015, by : upadmin
